BKS Iyengar founded the institute in Pune (Maharashtra, India) in memory of his beloved wife and taught there until the end of his life.
Prashant Iyengar, B.K.S. Iyengar’ son, directs the institute and teaches there. He is an intellectual, who specialises in ancient texts. He studies and teaches the subtle relationships between the body, breath, mind and awareness.

Abhijata Sridhar Iyengar, B.K.S. Iyengar’s granddaughter, represents the new generation devoted to the study and teaching of yoga. She teaches in Pune and at conventions world-wide.
Since its inauguration in 1975, the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI) has welcomed students from around the world.
Dr. Geeta Iyengar, daughter of BKS Iyengar (Degree in philosophy), had been teaching at the institute since 1962. She was co-director of RIMYI with her brother Prashant.
Geeta Iyengar has dedicated her life to teaching yoga with a particular focus on the benefits of yoga for women. She was a passionate and intense teacher who deeply marked all the students who had the chance to study with her.
She has also led numerous conventions in the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe.
