Yamas & Niyamas - East meets West

HOW YOGA PHILOSOPHY LINKS WITH THE SCIENCE OF WELL-BEING

SATURDAY JANUARY 19TH // 14:00-16:00 // YOGALOFT. MERL

WITH PAMELA STRASSER & FLORIANE PALMIER

ACCORDING TO PATANJALI, THE MOST FAMOUS YOGA PHILOSOPHER, THE PRACTICE OF YOGA IS DIVIDED INTO WHAT HE CALLED “THE EIGHT LIMBS”. THESE EIGHT LIMBS ARE 8 AREAS IN WHICH WE PRACTICE YOGA. WESTERN YOGA MAINLY FOCUSES ON THE THIRD LIMB – ASANA, PHYSICAL PRACTICE.

BUT BEFORE WE STEP ON THE MAT, PATANJALI INVITES US TO PRACTICE THE YAMAS AND NIYAMAS, GUIDELINES ON HOW TO BEHAVE TOWARDS OTHERS AND HOW TO BEHAVE TOWARDS OURSELVES IN ORDER TO CREATE UNION (YOGA).

IN THIS WORKSHOP, WE WILL INTRODUCE YOU TO THE YAMAS AND NIYAMAS, GIVING YOU A CLEAR EXPLANATION OF WHAT THEY ARE AND HOW THEY CAN BE APPLIED BOTH IN YOUR LIFE AND IN YOUR ASANA PRACTICE. WE WILL LOOK AT THEM BOTH FROM AN ANCIENT PHILOSOPHICAL PERSPECTIVE AND FROM A WESTERN, POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY POINT OF VIEW, TO SHOW YOU THAT YOGA PHILOSOPHY IS NOT SOMETHING DAUNTING BUT PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE THAT IS STILL RELEVANT AND APPLICABLE IN OUR TIMES.

NO PRIOR YOGA ASANA OR YOGA PHILOSOPHY KNOWLEDGE NEEDED.

JUST BRING YOURSELF, YOUR LOVE OF LEARNING, COMFORTABLE CLOTHES AND A NOTEBOOK AND A PEN IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO TAKE NOTES.
